Production of heavy oil from the Saudi-Kuwait Neutral Zone has resumed, Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) acting CEO Abdullah Al-Sumaiti announced late December.

Wafra Joint Operations (WJO: KGOC 50%, Saudi Arabian Chevron 50%) restarted production of the onshore Wafra field’s 24.5°API, 3.8%S Ratawi reservoir on 1 July (MEES, 3 July 2020) for the first time since 2015. Ratawi was the main source of Wafra output pre-2015 shutdown. Mr Sumaiti says production has now also resumed from the heavier Eocene formation (18.7°API, 4% sulfur). A Chevron spokesperson confirms that “due to the gradual start-up of heavy oil reservoirs at Wafra, the first volume of heavy crude was produced in December 2020.” (CONTINUED - 149 WORDS)
