Saudi private energy developer Acwa Power on 7 September completed financing of the kingdom’s 600,000 m3/d Jubail-3A desalination plant. When awarded in May this set a world record low levelized water cost of $0.413/m3 for produced water.

Acwa reached financial close less than a week after Dubai state utility Dewa announced it had received a new world record bid of $0.277/m3 of water for 546,000 m3/d Hassyan – undercutting Acwa’s bid by 32% and confirming that bidding for Gulf desalination projects is getting brutal.
