Unit 1 of Abu Dhabi’s Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant has now started up, paving the way for the beginning of nuclear power supply to the UAE grid. Outside of Iran, Barakah will be the only nuclear power plant in the Middle East.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) announced the milestone on 1 August. Enec says that “after several weeks and conducting numerous safety tests, Unit 1 will be ready to connect to the UAE’s electricity grid, delivering the first megawatts of clean electricity to the homes and businesses of the Nation.” (CONTINUED - 388 WORDS)
