Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power has appointed China’s Shanghai Electric as EPC contractor for the fifth phase of the Dubai’s MBR Solar Park. Acwa previously signed a power purchase agreement with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for the 900MW solar PV plant in April (MEES, 1 May). Acwa says the project will be delivered in three 300MW phases, with a construction period of 12 months for each. This implies mid-2023 completion.
Acwa Power is increasingly partnering with Chinese firms in the renewable energy sector and in May it established the ‘Acwa Power RenewCo’ JV with China’s state-owned Silk Road Fund.
