Egypt’s power generation from renewables sources reached a record 1.03TWh in July, according to data issued this week by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), while normal seasonal patterns suggest August was higher still (see chart 1).

The July renewables record follows a bumper year for renewables, whose contribution almost doubled to 8.7TWh for Egypt’s 2019-20 financial year (to June 2020) from 4.5TWh the previous year. These gains came despite overall power generation falling 1% from 2018-19’s record 198.6TWh (see chart 2). (CONTINUED - 882 WORDS)
