The GCC’s four leading oil and gas players have all set their sights on the burgeoning US shale scene, with major petrochemicals projects at varying stages of development. Gas giant Qatar Petroleum (QP) entered the fray last month (MEES, 19 July), joining peers from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait on the US Gulf Coast.

Qatar oversees one of the world’s largest gas resources and QP is the world’s largest LNG supplier (MEES, 9 August). Yet QP, like its fellow state firms, increasingly views overseas projects as a key part of its long-term growth strategy and has signed multiple upstream deals with majors over the past two years (MEES, 2 August).
