Total and Eni were this week awarded Block 7 offshore Cyprus, while the French major has farmed-in to four more blocks which the Italian firm operates, raising the number of blocks the two firms are partnered in the country’s offshore from two to seven.

Eni and Total were the only companies that bid on Block 7 after Nicosia placed the acreage on offer in October last year (MEES, 30 November 2018). The block was offered to firms holding adjacent acreage. So Eni and Total, who hold Blocks 6 and 11, and ExxonMobil with partner Qatar Petroleum (Block 10), were the only ones eligible to bid.
