Germany’s Siemens has been awarded a €280mn ($314mn) contract by Chinese EPC contractor Citic and Iraq’s Raban Al-Safinba for Energy Projects (Rasep) for turbines, generators and related equipment for an 840MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant at Missan. First electricity is scheduled for March 2021, with full combined cycle operation due in early 2022.

The Missan project appears to be separate from a €700mn ($785mn) agreement between Iraq’s Electricity Ministry and Siemens for the first phase of a “roadmap” plan to rebuild Iraq’s power sector. Siemens says this includes EPC construction of a 500MW gas-fired plant at Zubaidiya, the upgrade of 40 gas turbines and the installation of thirteen 132kV substations and 34 transformers across Iraq (MEES, 3 May).
