Greek minnow Energean has offered to supply gas to Cyprus from its under-development Karish/Tanin fields off Israel. A 200km pipeline would link the ‘Energean Power’ FPSO with Vasilikos on Cyprus’ southern coast, site of more than half of the island’s 1.5GW power generation capacity.
The Greek firm says supply could begin when Karish comes online in March 2021.
Nicosia rejected a similar offer from Energean last year with sources in the Cyprus Energy Ministry highly critical of the Greek firm’s proposal. The timing of Energean’s latest proposal coincides with an ongoing tender from Cyprus for an FSRU to handle envisaged future LNG imports ( MEES, 12 October 2018 ). (CONTINUED - 455 WORDS)
