US LNG Export Records As Europe Tops Asia

*The US exported a record 20.8mn tons of LNG in 2018. And volumes are on course to set new records this year as output ramps up at new export facilities. January, with 2.44mn t (4.1bn cfd of gas) saw a new monthly record high.

*2018’s LNG exports consumed 2.97bn cfd of gas, just 3% of the US’ 89.6bcm of sales gas output. With producers in some US shale basins recently having to pay shippers to take gas away, there is plenty more gas looking for a market.

*The biggest US LNG customer for 2018 was South Korea, which took 4.8mn tons. Mexico was second with 3.5mn tons but numbers three, four and five were all in Asia with the region accounting for just over half of total exports (see chart 1). (CONTINUED - 246 WORDS)
