Sudan Protests Egypt Bidding

Khartoum has summoned Egypt’s ambassador Hossan Isa and warned companies against participating in Cairo’s Red Sea bid round launched 9 March. Three of the blocks lie within waters claimed by both countries. ( MEES, 15 March ).

Both countries claim the 21,000km² Egypt-occupied Halayeb Triangle. Sudanese oil official Saad Al-Deen Hussein Al-Bishri threatens “consequences” against any “illegal operation” in the area which “will be borne by the entities carrying out this operation.”

Sudan’s foreign ministry subsequently warned companies “against submitting any bids in the mentioned area.” But if seismic indicates prospective geology, Sudan’s anger is unlikely to deter bidding. (CONTINUED - 99 WORDS)
