Iran’s President Hassan Rohani announced on 10 November that the country had made its “second biggest oil discovery” ever. The field, to which Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh the following day gave the name Namavaran, is in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan, on the border with Iraq. The field is 2,400km² in area with a reservoir thickness of 80 meters, Mr Zanganeh says.

The giant reservoir essentially consists of a massive deeper layer beneath previously-discovered fields including Darquain, Mansuri, Sepehr, Ab Teymour, Jufeyr and Susangerd (see map). (CONTINUED - 346 WORDS)
