Qatar set a monthly record for power generation in August when total output hit 5.65TWh. Monthly generation exceeded 5TWh in June for the first time since the previous record of 5.04TWh in August 2016 and continued rising in both July and August (see chart 1).

This puts Qatar on course for record electricity output this year. Should the 20% year-on-year growth seen in the first eight months be maintained for the remainder of 2019 this implies a record 47.3TWh for the year as a whole, some 8% above the previous record of 43.9TWh set in 2017 (see chart 2).
