Qatar Petroleum (QP) won three exploration blocks offshore Brazil in the country’s latest bid round. QP secured exploration rights at Block 541 (Total 40%op, QP 40%, Petronas 20%) and at blocks 659 and 713 (Shell 40%op, Chevron 35%, QP 25%). All three blocks are in the Campos Basin, and as with QP’s other international ventures, the firm is partnered with leading IOCs.

QP CEO Saad al-Kaabi praised the awards which he said marked “yet another successful step towards realizing our international growth strategy, and turning Brazil into a cornerstone of our international portfolio.” The firm is also present at a number of other Shell-operated and Exxon Mobil-operated blocks offshore Brazil. Exploration drilling at Shell’s Alto de Cabo Frio-Oeste is planned this year, while QP also has production from Shell’s Parque das Conchas (BC-10) license which has 100,000 b/d capacity (MEES, 21 December 2018).  (CONTINUED - 138 WORDS)
