Oman’s LNG exports* to its six key Asian customers hit a five-year high of 4.39mn tons for 1H 2018, up 3.2% on 1H 2017, in turn the highest since 2013 (see chart). This comes as the country’s gas production has soared to record levels (MEES, 17 August). These six key customers between them accounted for 96% of the 8.24mn tons of Omani LNG imported globally in 2017. Oman’s customer base is getting more diverse. Number one customer South Korea took 12.5% less in 1H 2018 but India (280,000 tons) and Taiwan (250,000 tons) took record volumes. Oman has this year added Singapore and Bangladesh as term customers (MEES, 11 May), so the increase in Oman’s overall LNG exports will likely have outpaced that indicated by legacy customers’ imports.
