Saudi Pledges $830mn To Tunisia

The struggling Tunisian economy will get an $830mn (TD2.45bn) financial aid boost from Saudi Arabia, PM Youssef Chahed told reporters during a 12-15 December visit to the kingdom.

Mr Chahed said $500mn would be deposited at the central bank to finance its budget, $230mn to finance foreign trade and a further $100mn for agriculture, the supply of drinking water and the restoration of religious monuments.

It appears Saudi Arabia has upped a previous pledge of $500mn in soft loans and $140mn for projects, announced by Tunisian officials after a recent visit by Saudi crown prince Muhammad bin Salman ( MEES, 30 November ). (CONTINUED - 101 WORDS)
