Saudi state-led petrochemicals firm Sabic has signed an MoU with British plastics recycling specialist Plastic Energy for the supply of feedstock to Sabic petchems plants in Europe.
The two firms plan to build the first commercial plant in the Netherlands to produce ‘Tacoil’ chemicals feedstock by recycling low quality mixed plastic waste that would otherwise be sent for incineration or landfill.
Major petrochemicals firms are increasingly looking to burnish their “green” credentials amidst rising concerns in the developed world over the impact of single-use plastics.
It was notable at last month’s Adipec conference in Abu Dhabi how much of an emphasis petrochemicals companies placed on recycling during a high-level panel discussion featuring the likes of Borealis, Borouge, Cepsa and Nova Chemicals.
