Latest US output forecasts give mixed messages as to the impact of Hurricane Harvey which shut in around 700,000 b/d of Gulf of Mexico and onshore Eagle Ford production in the last week of August.

The latest Short Term Energy Output of the US government’s Energy Information Administration (EIA), released 12 September has Gulf of Mexico output falling by a relatively-modest 70,000 b/d to 1.63mn b/d in August, with a further fall to 1.59mn b/d projected for September. Output from the Eagle Ford shale formation of southern Texas was also down as wells and transportation infrastructure were shut in, “however, production declines were offset by growth in other areas of the Lower 48 states onshore region,” the EIA says.
