The Sadara JV of state oil giant Saudi Aramco and US chemicals producer Dow has started production of polyols at its 3.2mn tons/year petrochemicals complex at Jubail on the Saudi Gulf coast.

The polyols unit is one of 14 in the $20bn Sadara complex to produce a specialty chemical in the kingdom for the first time. Polyols are a building block for making polyurethanes and foams, which are in demand across a wide range of global manufacturing industries and in particular the automotive sector.
