Tunisia’s state utility STEG has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Japan’s Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System (MHPS) and Sumitomo for a 450MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant at the Tunis port suburb of Rades.
The plant is expected to begin generating in May 2019 in open cycle mode before the start-up of a heat recovery steam generator to bring the plant to full capacity in combined cycle mode in April 2020.
MEES estimates Tunisia’s current power generating capacity at 4.4GW, of which around three quarters is gas-fired. When running in open cycle mode, the new plant will require a supply of up to 60mn cfd of gas. (CONTINUED - 279 WORDS)
