Sadara Cracks On With Petchems Expansion

The Sadara JV of Saudi Aramco and US chemicals giant Dow has started up the cracker at the heart of its 3.2mn tons/year specialty chemicals and plastics plant under construction at Jubail on Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast.

Sadara says the mixed feed cracker is the only one of its kind in Saudi Arabia and will allow Sadara to produce a diversified range of plastics and chemical products. The Sadara complex will comprise 26 manufacturing units, of which 14 will deliver chemicals produced in the kingdom for the first time.

The cracker will have capacity to produce 1.5mn t/y of ethylene and 400,000 t/y of propylene. Feedstock will be provided by Aramco and will comprise a variable mixture of up to 53,000 b/d of naphtha and 85mn cfd of ethane.
