Dubai Sets New PV Cost Benchmark In 800MW Phase Three Of Solar Park

Dubai’s Dewa has selected a consortium led by Abu Dhabi renewable energy developer Masdar to build the 800MW third phase of the emirate’s planned 5GW flagship solar park at Seih al-Dalal, 50km south of Dubai city.

Dewa signed an MoU this week with Masdar and partners Fotowatio and Gransolar of Spain to develop the plant for 2020 start-up as an independent power producer (IPP) scheme selling electricity to the emirati utility.

Dewa selected the Masdar-led group on the basis of a bid promising a levelized cost of electricity – a measure of the cost of building and operating a power plant over its life cycle – of 2.99 cents/kilowatt-hour, a new record for a solar photovoltaic project.
