Iran is making progress on the completion of a gas pipeline project to Iraq, the expansion of gas exports to Turkey, and a new pipeline to Oman, according to Azizollah Ramazani, head of international affairs at the state-owned National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).
On the home front, there are plans to increase gas treatment capacity by 25% and raise the coverage of the national gas network to 98%, he said.
Speaking to MEES on the sidelines of the World Gas Conference in Paris on 5 June, Mr Ramazani confirmed reports that NIGC managing director and Deputy Oil Minister Hamid Reza Araqi met with representatives of several major international companies during the conference to present opportunities for investment in Iran’s energy sector, should international sanctions on the country be lifted. Opportunities will be available throughout the gas value chain, he said.
