Motiva Ties Up US Refineries

Motiva Enterprises, the Saudi Aramco/Shell 50:50 US refining, distribution and marketing JV, plans to integrate its two Louisiana refineries to take advantage of relatively cheap locally produced light shale oil.

The company says that by connecting the 235,000 b/d Norco and 230,000 b/d Convent refineries by pipeline, it can optimize the use of the two plants’ intermediate and conversion units to increase distillate yields and reduce operating costs.

The merged Louisiana Refining System, “with an integrated crude capacity over 500,000 b/d…will rank in the top five North American refineries in capacity.” Motiva’s other refinery, the 620,000 b/d Port Arthur refinery in Texas, is already the largest refinery in North America.
