The oil and gas industry’s efforts to develop a unified message ahead of the upcoming UN climate conference in Paris (COP21) which begins on 30 November continued this week at Adipec in Abu Dhabi. Representatives from IOCs and NOCs alike did not shy away from addressing the challenges facing the oil and gas industry stemming from calls to reduce emissions.

As preparations for the conference intensify, it is clear that the oil and gas industry is taking the process seriously and will be pushing for an agreement which enshrines the importance of gas as a cleaner source of electricity generation than coal. BP’s upstream chief Lamar McKay told Adipec rising concerns about emissions “may well translate into polices that have long run implications for fossil fuels.” (CONTINUED - 1100 WORDS)
