Iranian President Hassan Rohani on 30 August blasted Washington’s decision to impose fresh penalties on businesses and individuals alleged to have violated sanctions against the Islamic Republic by helping it evade US and international sanctions.
“Sanctions are an invasion of the Iranian nation,” he said in comments broadcast by state television. “We should resist the invasion and put the invaders in their place.”
This follows the US introduction one day earlier of new sanctions on more than 25 people and companies “involved in expanding Iran’s proliferation program, supporting terrorism in the region, and helping Iran evade US and international sanctions.” US citizens will be barred from engaging in any form of transaction with the targeted parties, whilst their US assets will be frozen.
