The AES Jordan joint venture of US firm AES Corporation and Japan’s Mitsui and Co gas has started up a 240MW tri-fuel power plant at Jordan’s Amman East Power complex in Al-Manakher, 25km east of the capital.
The plant can run on both gas and fuel oil, but it is initially burning diesel. Mitsui says the total project cost is $350mn, and that electricity from the plant will be supplied to state utility National Electric Power Company (Nepco) under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
The new ‘peaker plant’ is intended to supply electricity to Nepco during high demand periods (MEES, 28 September 2012).
