China’s Harbin Electric International (HEI) has awarded contracts to Germany’s Siemens and Switzerland-based Foster Wheeler for equipment to be installed at the 510MW Soma coal-fired power plant in Turkey. HEI is engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the plant, being built for Turkey’s Hidro-Gen Enerji under a contract awarded in December.

Siemens says it will supply two 255MW steam turbines for August 2015-January 2016 delivery, with a view to starting commercial operation in April 2017. The company says the plant will be built at Soma in Turkey’s western Manisa province, where there are large lignite reserves which “Turkish energy policy places great importance on utilizing.” (CONTINUED - 282 WORDS)
