Iran Starts Work On 1GW Zanjan Plant

Iran power plants contractor Mapna has started work on a 1GW gas-fired plant near the city of Zanjan, to be completed in two phases. The first 500MW unit is scheduled for end-2015 start-up. Zanjan-2 is the second of three projects planned to meet the growing needs of the area in the next five years.

Zanjan Electricity Company head Ali Chehlamirani says the area’s demand peaked at 580MW in summer 2014, of which 73% was consumed in the industrial and agricultural sectors. New plants in Zanjan province are part of a Ministry of Energy plan to add 30GW of generating capacity nationally over five years.
