Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has inaugurated a 3.92GW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant at Qurayyah near Damman on the Gulf coast. The plant was built by Jiddah-based contractor Arabian Bemco and Korea’s Doosan on a lump-sum turnkey basis at an estimated cost of SR6.88bn ($1.83bn).

The plant was officially inaugurated late last month by Prince Saud bin Naif bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, Governor of Eastern Province, and Minister of Water and Electricity ‘Abd Allah al-Hussayin, with SEC chief executive Salih al-Barrak in attendance. The ceremony marked the connection of the plant to the transmission grid after completion of an upgrade for combined-cycle operation. (CONTINUED - 623 WORDS)
