Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has called for international help in dealing with an influx of Syrian refugees equal to 25% of the country’s population. Addressing the UN Security Council on 24 September, Mr Sleiman said his county faced an existential crisis as a result of the war in neighboring Syria. Mr Sleiman’s urgent plea for help was well received among several key donors. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has called for a donor’s meeting on 30 September in Geneva to discuss the Syrian crisis.
