The Egyptian government is working on the basis of a comprehensive plan of policies and programs to revive the economy and achieve social justice, while maintaining financial discipline, Egypt’s Minister of Finance Ahmad Jalal said at a meeting earlier this week of young activists from various parties in the country. This would allow the country to confront short-term challenges and put in place a framework for economic and social reconstruction in the medium-term.

The minister says that in formulating its financial and economic policies, the government has two choices: either to focus on financial discipline by adopting austerity measures aimed at reducing the budget deficit and public debt, or to stimulate the economy with expansionary policies which would increase job creation.
