Turkey awarded on 3 May a $22bn contract to a Japanese/French consortium for the construction of four nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 4.4gw at Sinop on the Black Sea coast.

The plant will be built by Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Itochu Corporation, France’s GDF Suez and Areva, and Turkey’s Electricity Generation Company (EÜAŞ). Start-up of the first unit is scheduled for 2023. (CONTINUED - 279 WORDS)
