IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde says it is necessary to assist Jordan to overcome the consequences of the Syrian crisis, which has dealt a heavy blow to its economy. Speaking on 11 November in Kuwait, Ms Lagarde said the IMF can confirm the stability of the financial and economic conditions in Jordan and its ability to meet the tough challenges arising from the Syrian crisis, adding that the IMF is ready to help Jordan.

Earlier on 8 November the IMF Executive Board completed the second review of Jordan’s performance under a three-year program supported by a standby arrangement of $2.086bn, approved in August 2012.
