The decision to dissolve the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) has been reversed, a knowledgeable source with access to NIGEC’s senior executives told MEES. A committee set up in August by Petroleum Minister Rostam Qasemi to examine National Iranian Oil Company’s (NIOC) attempt to incorporate NIGEC as a division of its International Affairs directorate proposed the reversal, the source said.

The initial plan to dissolve NIGEC, the exporting arm of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), was originally taken by Mr Qasemi’s predecessor, Massoud Mirkazemi, in 2011. A former senior NIOC executive told MEES that Mr Qasemi has accepted – despite NIOC protests – the committee’s recommendation “because the effects of Mirkazemi’s decision were not thoroughly studied.” (CONTINUED - 284 WORDS)
