Tunisia’s dependence on Algeria for energy is growing larger by the year with electricity and gas imports hitting record levels in the first half of 2022. Crucially, Tunisia’s increasing reliance on its larger neighbor looks here to stay.
From barely importing any electricity over the decade to 2020, Tunisia last year boosted net imports from Algeria to 1.1TWh, equal to more than 5% of total supplies to market (MEES, 18 February).
