Cypriot President Demetris Christofias on 5 April said a joint committee between Cyprus and Israel would soon meet to discuss “possible joint exploitation” of offshore hydrocarbon deposits in the East Mediterranean. Speaking at a press conference, Mr Christofias said the government was working quietly to transform Cyprus into a regional energy hub based on the island’s strategic position and its EU membership.
