Qatar Offers To Market Rebel Crude As Sanctions Tighten On Qadhafi

In addition to being the first Arab country to officially recognize Libya’s rebels and contribute aircraft to police the no-fly zone, Qatar has signed a deal to market crude oil from east Libyan oil fields controlled by opponents of Col Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi. The deal with Qatar was announced in rebel stronghold Bengazhi by Ali Tarhuni, an official for the Transitional National Council (TNC). Mr Tarhuni estimated that the east fields are producing 100,000-130,000 b/d, but suggested this could be hiked to over 300,000 b/d.
