Kuwait’s Emir Orders Government To Amend Electoral Law

Kuwait’s Emir, Shaikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, said he ordered his government to amend the controversial electoral law despite threats by the opposition they will boycott the polls (KUNA). The decision is highly controversial and is highly expected to spark strong reactions from the opposition and plunge the country into further turmoil. The 2006 law divides the country into five electoral constituencies each selecting 10 MPs to the 50-member parliament.
