Lebanon PM To Resign After Car Bomb

Published on Monday, 22 Oct 14:48 pm

Lebanese PM Najib Mikati has tendered his resignation, following Friday’s car bombing which killed Lebanon’s head of intelligence. Mr Mikati has been asked to stay on by the President “in the national interest.” The development followed an emergency cabinet meeting in Beirut. Many Lebanese have blamed Syria for the blast, and there have been violent anti-Syrian protests in several Lebanese cities. On Sunday noon, after the funeral, protesters tried to storm the PM office, but were stopped by the police. The opposition has demanded Mr Mikati’s resignation, blaming him and his cabinet of conspiring with the Syrians.
