Syria Diplomacy ‘Nearly Impossible’, Says Brahimi
Published on Monday, 03 Sep 17:52 pm
Lakhdar Brahimi, the New UN and Arab League special envoy for Syria, has described his mission to end the conflict in Syria as nearly impossible. In a BBC interview on 3 September, Mr Brahimi said: “I know how difficult it is, how nearly impossible. I can’t say impossible – nearly impossible. People are already saying 'People are dying and what are you doing?' And we are not doing much. That in itself is a terrible weight.” Mr Brahimi took over the role from Kofi Annan, who resigned at the end of August, claiming that “finger-pointing and name-calling” within the UN Security Council was preventing progress.
