IAEA-Iran Talks Inconclusive
Published on Monday, 27 Aug 12:35 pm
Talks between the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Tehran on 24 August over the controversial Iranian nuclear program – the target of escalating UN/EU sanctions against Iran – reached no conclusion. “The discussions today were intensive but important differences remain between Iran and the UN that prevented agreement,” IAEA chief inspector Herman Nackaerts told journalists after the meeting in Vienna. “At the moment we have no plans for another meeting.” Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh was more upbeat: “Issues related to national security of a member state are something very delicate, but I have to say that we are moving forward. And we are going to continue this process so that we at the end of the day will have a framework agreed by both sides.”
