Syria Massacre Prompts Western Outrage

The massacre of more than 100 civilians in Houla prompted seven Western governments to expel Syrian envoys on 29 May. However, the 15-nation UN Security Council remains split over how to deal with the increasing brutality of the Asad regime. “There are no signs Russia and China are ready to support tougher steps at the UN, despite what happened in Houla,” Reuters quoted a UN diplomat as saying. Russia and China have vetoed two resolutions condemning Damascus for the continuing bloodshed.
