US Senate Approves New Iran Sanctions

The US Senate approved Monday unanimously new sanctions against Iran. The bill allows President Obama to impose sanctions on any country or company that enters joint ventures with Iran, reports the AFP. The bill must now be reconciled with sanctions approved by the House on December 14. The legislation targets Iran’s national oil and tankers companies, the Revolutionary Guards Corps, and would for the first time widen sanctions on Iran’s energy sector to any joint venture anywhere in the world when Iran’s government is a substantial investor or partner.
