Following the latest EU decision on 1 December to tighten sanctions on Syria’s energy sector, with blacklisting of the state-owned General Petroleum Corporation (GPC) and Syria Trading Oil (Sytrol) and the GPC joint venture Al-Furat Petroleum Company (AFPC), two of the main European companies still operating in the country have quit the Syrian upstream.
