Electricity Price Freeze Hinders Dubai’s Energy Plan

Dubai’s Supreme Council of Energy (SCE) announced on 14 August that electricity tariffs will be frozen for the “few coming years,” while simultaneously launching an energy conservation program. The tariff announcement surprised energy insiders of the heavily indebted city-state because it has hiked prices in various ways in recent years and faces growing energy bills as it imports more and more LNG. The industry is interpreting “few coming years” to mean two, an official of a state-owned energy firm tells MEES.
