Cyprus Considers Interim Solution For Natural Gas Supply, Noble Energy Keen To Drill

The government of Cyprus is considering an interim solution for the supply of natural gas as it waits to learn if it has natural gas reserves of its own in its offshore exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides told reporters in Nicosia on 5 May that the government wanted to introduce natural gas as a source of fuel for power generation as soon as possible. Cyprus relies mainly on heavy fuel oil to generate electricity, although gas-burning units have been installed in the island’s power facilities.
