Algerian Court Jails Former Sonatrach Chiefs

An Algerian court on 4 May sentenced Muhammad Mezianne, former CEO of state oil company Sonatrach, to two years imprisonment for corruption, Algerian press reported. Former Sonatrach vice-president 'Abd al-Hafidh Feghouli, who briefly succeeded Mr Mezianne, received a one year sentence. Charged with acting “contrary to procurement regulations” and “wasting public money,” Mr Mezianne and Mr Feghouli’s imprisonments were only the most high profile of a series of convictions.
